Kaisa Salmi garnished the streets of downtown Oulu with about 34,000 rose bushes donated by Huiskulan Puutarha. The installation was constructed on Sunday 25 August with the help of about 100 volunteers. The official opening ceremony took place on Monday, 26 August 2013. After official speech’s Mieskuoro Huutajat performed.

Over the week, various activities took place in and around the installation. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 8 and 9, Tapio Maunuvaara serenades early birds with his trumpet. On Wednesday 28 August, dancer Pirjo Yli-Maunula dances at the traffic lights during rush hours. On Friday and Saturday, at lunchtime between 11 AM and 1 PM, people have the chance to relax in hammocks while listening to classical music performed by a string trio, with the artist Kaisa Salmi giving relaxation treatments. On Sunday 1 September from 10 AM on, the rose bushes are distributed to people free of charge. The bushes can be planted in a deep hole in the ground, ideally with dirt mixed with sand, or in a pot, in which case they should be stored in a cool place over the winter.

Over the week, students of Horticulture at the OSAO Kempele unit visit the roses daily for maintenance and watering. In addition, volunteers participate in watering the roses over the week. The artist Kaisa Salmi hopes that people will embrace the installation and participate in maintaining it of their own accord.
